A torque plate is an essential tool for anyone serious about building a reliable high-performance engine. When a cylinder head is bolted to an engine block, the clamping force slightly distorts the cylinder bores. Honing without simulating this stress can lead to imperfect bore geometry, resulting in less power and increased PCV pressure because the rings can’t properly seal an out-of-round bore. Some engines are more prone to distortion than others, but they all move to some extent.
That’s where a torque plate comes in. By bolting it to the block during the machining and honing process, the cylinder walls are stressed exactly as they will be in the finished engine. This ensures a perfectly round and true bore, giving you maximum ring seal, better efficiency, and long-term durability under load.
This plate fits all Dodge SRT-4 “A853” Engines with a maximum bore of 89mm. Bigger/custom bore sizes are available from the drop-down menu.
They are CNC-machined from 2″-thick 6061-T6 aluminum. Stainless-steel inserts are included, so the plate can be used repeatedly without damaging the mounting holes. The inserts also give you close-to-stock cylinder-head height so you can use your existing head bolts or studs to torque the plate down.
It is suitable for bores up to 89mm for anyone increasing displacement, but it can obviously be used on smaller bores as well.
